"Local stone foundations of a domestic building, measuring 110 ft. from N to S and 70 ft. from E to W, are being excavated by the side of a small brook draining into the R. Evenlode, 400 yds. SE of Shakenoak Farm, Wilcote, Oxfordshire, 3/4 mile due W of North Leigh and 1 1/2 miles SW of the Roman villa there, and 1 1/4 miles S of Akeman Street" JRS 52, 1962, 175

"Oxfordshire: (i) At Shakenoak Farm, Wilcote (JRS LII, I75), the dwelling-house displays stone foundations of three distinct periods. Fig. I7 shows the final phase of period iII (late fourth century) after the sub-division of the front corridor, the reconstruction of the large S. room and at least one reorganization of the baths. Most of the house fell into disuse in the fifth century and the central cobbled area was used for iron-working" JRS 53. 1963, 166

"Oxfordshire: (i) Earlier versions of Building A at Shakenoak Farm, Wilcote (J-RS LIV, 166, fig. 17), were evidently outbuildings, rather than dwellings. (a) The evidence for period I (fig. I5) was largely destroyed by later structures; coins were found of Vespasian (very worn) and of Trajan. (b) As rebuilt in period 2 (fig. i6), the building contained a store-room or granary and a furnace, near which was found several pounds of melted lead; coins were of Caracalla and of Elagabalus.79" JRS 54, 1964, 210
